Serving as a member of the Accounting Society is a great experience for all members. Serving in leadership as a member of the Executive Board is an experience in its own right. The Executive Board is comprised of 9 seats, each fulfilling a unique and important role for the society. Below are the Executive Board positions, their main focus, and their responsibilities.
Main Focus - Representing the policies, views, and opinions of the organization in its relationship with the campus and community at large.
Responsibilities - The President organizes and executes the Executive Board meetings. The President ensures total quality programming throughout the semester and interacts as liaison with professional guests. He integrates Accounting Society programs with other CSU San Marcos objectives. The President's main focus is to coordinate efforts of all officers to provide valued service to the organization's members.
Main Focus - Actively training and learning to becoming President for the following semester.
Responsibilities - The President-Elect assists the President at the organization meetings, learning the procedures and duties that he/she will assume the following semester. He/she will develop the relationships they will needed as President, oversee special projects, and assist other officers as needed.
Vice President of External Affairs:
Main Focus - Develop relationships with accounting industry representatives and coordinating for them to attend various Accounting Society events.
Responsibilities - The Vice President of External Affairs performs the duties related to Accounting Society external promotions and contacts as assigned by the President. He/she schedules speakers from public, private, and government accounting entities. He/she greets and introduces speakers at speaking engagements.
Vice President of External Affairs-Elect:
Main Focus - Actively training and learning to become Vice President of External Affairs for the following semester.
Responsibilities - The Vice President of External Affairs-Elect assists the Vice President of External Affairs with duties related to Accounting Society external promotions and contacts as assigned by the President learning the procedures and duties that he/she will assume the following semester.
Vice President of Internal Affairs:
Main Focus - Manage On-Campus related business.
Responsibilities - The Vice President of Internal Affairs performs duties related to Accounting Society internal operations and affairs. He/she schedules meeting rooms. He/she coordinates monthly Chairperson Reports. He/she provides refreshments for general meetings, to be reimbursed by the Accounting Society fund. He/she contributes to the development of the organization's bylaws and the officers' policies and procedures manuals. *This position requires availability of at least two hours before U-hour meetings 12:00pm-1:00pm for procurement of general meeting refreshments
Main Focus - Maintenance of budgets and funds.
Responsibilities - The Treasurer handles all financial affairs and budgeting of the Accounting Society. He/she works with officers to develop a semester budget. He/she shall monitor the budgets and ensure proper financial controls. He/she is responsible for, with the assistance of the Fund Raising Chairperson, applying for grants and raising the funds necessary for the Accounting Society to operate. He/she shall maintain bank accounts in the organization's name, requiring signatures from the Faculty Advisor, President, and Treasurer for authorized disbursements.
Main Focus - Actively training and learning to becoming Treasurer for the following semester.
Responsibilities - The Treasurer-Elect assists the Treasurer in the handling of all financial and budgetary affairs of the Accounting Society and learning the procedures and duties that he/she will assume the following semester. He/she will develop the relationships they will needed as Treasurer, assist with special projects, and assist other officers as needed.
Director of Membership & Recruitment:
Main Focus - Maintain member information and records.
Responsibilities - The Director of Membership and Recruitment is responsible for maintaining member records. In addition, she is responsible for the Peer Mentorship Program mentors and mentees. The Director of Membership and Recruitment is in charge of sustaining this program and making sure everything runs smoothly.
Director of Communications & Technology:
Main Focus - Maintain open communication with members through various mediums.
Responsibilities - The Director of Communications & Technology, with the help of a chair person, is responsible for updating the website, preparing newsletters, sending out weekly meeting reminder emails, preparing marketing materials, preparing lobby TV ads, and maintaining social media sites.
To be considered for a seat on the Executive Board, the following criteria must be met (Accounting Society Bylaws Article IV, Sec. 4):
Must be a regularly enrolled student in good standing at CSU San Marcos
Must have been a voting member of the organization for a minimum of one (1) semester.
Must earn a passing grade of 'C' or better in ACCT301 (Intermediate Accounting I) preceding assumption of office.
